Shedding Light Moments

22nd May 2024.
(1John 2:28-3:3).
Speaking of the Lord’s return, John tells us that “everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself”(v3). Looking forward to Jesus’ return fills us with hope; not a wish-list kind of hope, but a solid expectation that motivates us to keep our hearts from sinful distractions and rivets our attention on becoming more like Him. If we really believe that the Lord’s return is near, we will be more ready to forgive, to seek forgiveness, and to share God’s unconditional love with others.
As we consider the possibility that Jesus could return at any moment, let’s be sure that we are ready. Let’s strive to be pure as He is pure, anticipating the day when tears and sorrow, pain and death will all be replaced with the everlasting joy of His presence. Reflect then on this SLM:-
“Wanting to be ready for Christ’s return will make a difference in the way we live.”

(Psalm 23).
At times all of us battle with seasons of real loneliness, wondering if anyone knows, understands, or cares about the burdens we carry or the struggles we face. But followers of Christ have an assurance that brings comfort to our weary hearts. The comforting presence of the Saviour is promised in words that are undeniable, for the psalmist David wrote, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me”(v.4).
Whether we are isolated by our own choices, by the cultural trends that surround us, or by the painful losses of life, all who know Christ can rest in the presence of the Shepherd of our hearts. What a friend we have in Jesus! Reflect then on this SLM:-
“Those who know Jesus as their friend are never alone.”
