Shedding Light Moments

Shedding Light Moment 21st June 2021.
(Phil 1:1-11).
Life is not made up by the dreams that you dream but by the choices you make. Your life today is the sum total of all the choices you’ve made up to this point.
Often it’s very challenging to make the best choice, especially if there aren’t many others joining us. We may even feel as if our desires and freedoms have been suppressed. But if you follow Paul’s advice, you’ll notice some really positive outcomes like being pure and blameless and fruitful (vv 10-11).
Make a choice to live a life filled with the fruit of the spirit. See Galatians 5:22-23. Then revel in the result! So ponder this SLM.
“Make an excellent choice and watch the ripple effect of blessing.”

(Matt 7:24-27).
Building on an unstable foundation is not wise. This is also true of our spiritual lives. See verses 26-27.
The shifting morals of our present world can be confusing. We may be tempted to let culture or the opinions of society be the foundation for the decisions we make. But obeying the unwavering truth of God’s Word brings stability unavailable anywhere else. Reflect on verse 24 one more time and then ponder this SLM.
“Build your life on the solid foundation—Jesus Christ.”

(Psalm 55:1-8).
Like David, when we’re facing pressure, hardship, mistreatment or grief, we might wish we could sprout wings and fly away. But Jesus offers a better way. Rather than fleeing our struggles, He invites us to flee to Him. See His words in Matt 11:28-29.
Rather than wishing we could fly away and escape life’s problems, we can bring them to Him.
Escape cannot give rest, but Jesus can. So ponder this SLM.
“God gives us the strength to face our problems, not to flee from them.

(2 Cor 2:14-17).
Just yesterday, I spoke at length to a woman who had been duped by the incorrect teaching of the Word of God.
The Apostle Paul being aware of religious charlatans who “peddled” God’s Word for their own desires wrote we don’t peddle the Word of God for profit, but with sincerity (v.17).
At all times we must be on guard not to misrepresent God’s message to acquire what we want from others. With a heart yielded to God, we must honestly share spiritual truths that will benefit those who hear. So ponder this SLM.
“The purpose of sharing God’s truth is to profit others, not prosper ourselves.”

Shedding Light Moment 18th June 2021.
(Matt 16:21-26)
When the Titanic sank just two lists were posted, the “saved” and the “lost”. Status in life didn’t at all matter that fateful night.
The parallel to our life on earth is profound. It really doesn’t make any difference how the world ranks status. The only thing that ultimately matters is whether you are “saved” or “lost”. Read Matt 16:26 again and ponder it. Perhaps you’ve already trusted in Christ for your salvation. But what about your fellow “passengers” in life? Instead of sizing them up by externals, talk to them about their ultimate destination. So ponder this SLM.
“In light of eternity, what one believes is far more important than what one achieves.”

Shedding Light Moment 7th June 2021.
(Psalm 33:13-22)
It is clear from from the words of the Psalmist that God views all mankind and especially those who fear Him. He sees with His heart of love as He considers who we are and what we do. We are never out of God’s sight, and He keeps a close eye on everyone whose hope is in Him.
For all who know the Lord through faith in Jesus Christ, it’s encouraging to realize that every day we’re a part of His amazing view. So ponder this SLM.
“Keep your eyes on God; He never takes His eyes off you”.

Shedding Light Moment 9th June 2021.
(Psalm 19:7-14)
I would have to say that the Bible has helped to shape my life. That’s why I enjoy sharing God’s Word with others. There are many ways to pass along God’s truth to people hungering for encouragement and help. My own personal goal is to enable others to experience the great benefit I’ve found in knowing Christ and being guided by His Word. Reflect on verse 7 again.
The Word of God,which guards our hearts and guides our steps, is worth sharing with others. So ponder this SLM. “The Bible: Know it in your head, stow it in your heart, show it in your life, sow it in the world.”

Shedding Light Moment 11th June 2021.
(Eccles 2:1-11).
The desire for pleasure isn’t wrong. Reflect on 1Timothy 6:17. But ultimate pleasure is not found in the short-lived thrills our world offers, but rather in long-term joy from a deepening intimacy with our Lord. King Solomon learned this the hard way. “He refused his heart no pleasure” (v10). But after his pleasure seeking spree he concluded “all was meaningless a chasing after the wind” (v11). It’s no wonder he warned “He who loves pleasure will become poor” in (Proverbs 21:17).
What we are really looking for is satisfied only in a fulfilling growing relationship with Jesus. Pursue Him and taste His delights. So ponder this SLM.
“Are we living for our own pleasure or living to please our heavenly Father?”

Shedding Light Moment 31st May 2021.
(Psalm 92).
Psalm 92 tells us,that no matter how old we are, we can have a fresh and fruitful life. Men and women who have been “planted” in the rich soil of God’s vineyard will continue to “bear fruit” and “stay fresh and green”. See John 15:5 as well.
Muscles may ache and joints hurt, and life may slow down a bit. But inwardly we can be “renewed day by day” (2Cor 4:16). No matter how old we get, we can still be young at heart— but with the benefit of a well-lived lifetime of knowledge and wisdom. So ponder this SLM.
” Faithfulness is God’s requirement; fruitfulness is His reward.”

Shedding Light Moment 2nd June 2021.
(Col 1:3-18).
In Colossians 1, Paul wrote to people who had come to know Jesus Christ and whose lives showed evidence of their faith. He used a powerful word picture to describe what God had done for them all. Read verses 13-14 once again slowly.
In Christ, we have been rescued! He has taken us from danger to safety, from one power and destiny to another, from death to life.
It’s worthwhile pondering all that being rescued means to us, as we thank God for His grace and power. Consider then, this SLM.
“Those who’ve been rescued from sin are best able to help in the rescue of others”
…Pastor Ross.
Shedding Light Moment 4th June 2021.
(Phil 3:8-16)
In life, it’s very important to focus on what matters most. In Philippians 3, Paul describes how that relates to the Christian. Rather than being distracted by lesser things, He wanted us to focus on what mattered most. See vv.13-14.
“One thing I do”.
In a world full of distractions, it’s vital for the child of God to stay focused, and there is no better point of focus in the universe than Jesus Christ himself. So ponder this SLM.
“We live most effectively for Christ when we keep our eyes on Him.”

Shedding Light Moment 24th May 2021.
(Psalm 13).
Sometimes it is hard to really know whether to label life’s circumstances as good or bad.
At times, it’s hard to see how God is working. His mysteries don’t always reveal their secrets to us, and our journey is often redirected by uncontrollable detours. But perhaps God is showing us a better route.
To make sure we benefit from what may seem bad, we must recognize and trust in God’s “unfailing love” recorded in v.5. In the end, we’ll be able to say “I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me” (v6). So here is a SLM to start this week.
“We may not be able to control events, but we can control our attitude toward them”.

Shedding Light Moment 26th May 2021.
(2 Tim 2:1-7).
Paul urged Timothy not to let anything slow him down or distract him from the cause of his Lord and Master. Sadly, today, many believers allow themselves to become “overly” entangled with, hobbies, sports, TV, computer games etc, all of which can easily impede the purpose for which God created us: to share the good news of Christ, serve Him with our gifts, and bring glory to Him. If you are wanting to please God, then don’t let yourself get overly entangled with this world’s affairs (v.4).
If you genuinely desire to please the Lord Jesus you’ll want to stay untangled from the world. See 1John 2:17.
So ponder this SLM.
“Although we live in this world, we must declare our allegiance to heaven.”
Pastor Ross.
Shedding Light Moment 28th May 2021.
(Psalm 34:1-10).
When we read the words “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (v.8) we can be sure that God wants us to “savour” His presence. He allows us to gain intimate and satisfying knowledge of Him. And when we meditate on His Word, we will draw out a deeper understanding of who He is. See Ezekiel 3:1-3. As we taste His goodness and love, He will reveal the distinctive flavour of His creativity, holiness and faithfulness.
Our Father must look on with great enjoyment as we learn how to enjoy and savour Him. So ponder this SLM.
“Our greatest privilege is to enjoy God’s presence”.
