Shedding Light Moments

Shedding Light Moment 30th October 2020

***************
Consider the SLM in today’s reading 1John 4:7-12:-
***********
When driven by goals we can often use people to win and achieve them. Gods Word, however, calls us to a different view of those who are around us. We are to see people as created in the very image of God(Gen1:26). They are objects of God’s love as seen in (John 3:16) and deserving or ours as well as seen in (1John 4:7). Because God first loved us,we are to respond by loving Him and the people He created in His image..So here’s a SLM to end this week.
☆People are to be loved, not used☆

Consider this SLM found in Hebrews 10:19-25 and more specifically in verses 24-25.
**********
The church is not just an institution or a mere social club. It is where we,who have been brought near to God and washed from sin,can help one another grow in being more like Christ. The purpose of meeting together as a corporate body is to exhort and encourage one another. No believer can function alone. We certainly need the community of believers. As you meet with other believers think of who you can come alongside and encourage by your words and actions to be more like the Christ we love and serve. So here’s another SLM to ponder:-
**A healthy church is the best witness to a hurting world.**

Reflect on John 4:7-14 and consider this SLM:-
************
Far greater than any water drawn from a well or from a natural spring in nature is the refreshment we have been offered in Christ himself. We can be satisfied, forJesus alone, the Water of Life, can quench our thirst. Praise God, for Jesus is the source that never runs dry.
So here’s the SLM thought:-
*******
☆The only real and true thirst-quencher is Jesus–The Living Water.☆

Read Matthew 1:18-25, give thought to verse 21and then consider this SLM:-
**********
In the Bible,we find that names often reflected the character of a person or made a statement about them. No one has ever been more appropriately named than Jesus. When the angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph about Mary’s soon-to-be-born Son,he told Joseph to give Him the name Jesus for He would save His people from their sins(v21)
Jesus means “the Lord saves”and defines both who Jesus is and why He came. In verse 23, He was also called Immanuel which means “God with us”. His name reveals our eternal hope!….So here’s the SLM:-
*********
The name of Jesus is at the heart of our faith and our hope!

Read Ephesians 5:1-17 and ponder this SLM:-
***********
Sure footing is a necessary precaution lest we have a nasty fall I cant think of a better picture of what Paul is saying in Eph 5:15 when he says “be very careful…how how you live”. We should see to it that we “walk circumspectly”as the KJV renders the text.
Clearly, with all of life’s possible dangers coming our way as we climb through life, it is vital that we take each step with Jesus wisely and cautiously. A fool, the passage says, lives very carelessly; a wise person watches each step so he does not stumble or fall.
Our goal of being “imitators of God”(v1)is met,Paul says, as we walk carefully in love (v2, 15). Through the Holy Spirits guidance,we can walk in a way that honours God.
*Todays SLM thought is:-
As we trust God to rule our hearts our feet can walk His way.

Read James 4:11-17,reflect on verse 14 and consider this SLM:-
***********
Although our current life is temporary and will one day pass away, the God we worship and serve is eternal. He has shared that eternity with us through the gift of His Son,Jesus Christ. He has promised us a life that will never pass away…Read John 3:16 and rejoice.
When Christ returns,He will take us home to be with Him forever!…So here’s a SLM to end the week on.
*********
For hope today, remember the end of the story—eternity with God.

Read 2 Peter 1:2-11 and reflect on this SLM:-
************
The Apostle Peter reminded first century believers that Christlike living and effective service result from an actual process. He urged them to grow in eight areas of their spiritual development. (See verses 5-8). He told them that if they possess these eight qualities in increasing measure they would neither be ineffective nor would they be unproductive in their(our) knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God calls us to a joyous and wonderful process of learning to know Him,with the assurance that it will lead to productive service in His name and for His honour. So here’s a SLM to start the week.
**********
The Christian life is a process in which we learn complete dependence on God.
