Shedding Light Moments

Shedding Light Moment 2nd December 2020

(1Corinthians 13:4-13)
*********
A simple act of love can burn into and change a person’s heart.
Perhaps you have a friend who is resisting God’s love. Show His love to him or her, just as God showed love to us, when He, through Jesus brought salvation into the world. Shower upon others the kind of love described in 1Corinthians 13—a love that is patient, kind, humble and unselfish.
Authentic love is a gift from God that we can keep on giving…So here’s a mid week SLM.
*******
God pours His love into our hearts to flow out to others.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

(Psalms116:5-9;103-2)
**********
It’s good at times to remind ourselves of God’s great faithfulness and the hope we have in Him. We can follow the example of the psalmist and spend some time naming the many ways God has been good to us. As we do, we will be encouraged. The same God who has been faithful in the past will continue His love for us in the future…So here’s a SLM to end the week.
******
Reminding ourselves about God’s goodness can keep us filled with His peace.

In Psalm 102:25 -28 and James 1:17 today’s readings, the Psalmist and James tell us that God “remains the same”(Psa,102:27) and that “every good and perfect gift is from above”(James 1:17). In our circumstances that are constantly changing,we can be assured that our good God will always be consistent to His character….He is the source of everything good, and everything He does is good.
It may seem that nothing lasts forever, but our God will remain consistently good to those who are His own. So here’s a SLM to start the week off.
******
The One who holds the very universe together will not let go of you.

Shedding Light Moment 23rd November 2020

(Colossians 3:12-17).
*********
The garments that God provides, such as kindness, humility and gentleness allow us to meet hostility and criticism with patience, love, and forgiveness. They give us staying power in the storms life.
When we face adverse conditions the “clothing”God tells us to wear protects us and enables us to make a positive difference.
Dressing according to God’s guidelines doesn’t change the weather,it equips the wearer. So reflect on this SLM.

Kindness is the oil that takes the friction out of life. ….Blessings Pastor Ross.

Shedding Light Moment 25th November 2020

(Luke 10:30-37)
**********
Like the first two in our story its easy to find reasons not to get involved. Busyness, fear and indifference, often top the list. Yet as we seek to follow our Lord faithfully,we will become more aware of the opportunities to show the kind of compassion He showed in the gospels.
In the parable of the good Samaritan,Jesus took the step of commending the man who had acted out of compassion even though it was inconvenient, difficult, and costly to do so and then concluded with the words “Go and do likewise”. So here’s the SLM for us.
******
True compassion puts love into action.

Shedding Light Moment 18th November 2020

(Galatians 5:16-25)
*********
Self-control is very hard to master. We are very often defeated by a bad habit, a bad attitude or a wrong mind-set. Thankfully God knows our weakness,as well as the remedy…see verses 22-23. The only way to gain self-control is by allowing the Holy Spirit to contol us.
In other words, our key focus is not effort but full surrender—that is, to live each moment submissively trusting in the Lord rather than in self. That’s what it means to “live by the Spirit”.
As you surrender control to Him,He will help you bear the fruit of His likeness. So here is the SLM to ponder:-
*****
God is not nearly as concerned with our ability as He is with our surrender.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

Shedding Light Moment 20th November 2020

(John 8:31-37)
***********
When Jesus came, He fought a battle for all of us who are enslaved and unable to fight for ourselves. Our slavery is not one of outward chains. We are held by our own sin and brokenness. That’s why Jesus said what He did in verses 34-36 of our reading.
Wherever such freedom seems unheard of,His words need to be declared. We can be liberated from our guilt, shame, and hopelessness. By trusting Jesus,we can be free indeed!…So ponder this SLM.
*******
The price of our freedom from sin was paid by Jesus’s blood.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

**************
Reflect on the SLM in the reading today…Heb10:23-25.
*********
The Christian life is meant to be lived in company with others, not alone. Today’s reading urges us to live in community with other followers of Jesus. In community we reassure and reinforce each other. Verse 25 says “encouraging one another”.
Even our most difficult days can become a very meaningful part of our journey of faith when others share them with us. Don’t face life alone. Let us travel together. So here’s the SLM.
*******
Life in Christ is meant to be a shared experience.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

*************
Consider this SLM in today’s reading 1Peter 1:3-9.
*****
No financial plan can really provide an absolute sure guarantee of earthly security. But there is a plan that truly extends far beyond this life and indefinitely into the future. See verses 3-4.
Planning for retirement is a good idea if we’re able to do so. But more important is having an eternal inheritance that never runs out or runs short of what we need…and that is available only through faith in Jesus Christ. So here is the SLM:-
****
The promise of heaven is our eternal hope.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

Shedding Light Moment 9th November 2020

************
Consider this SLM in today’s
reading, Romans 13:8-10.
******
The Apostle Paul saw that love is the intent behind many biblical commands. Clearly Roms 13:10 indicates that thought.
Each day as we follow Jesus Christ our Saviour, we are faced with choices that will affect the lives of others. When we choose a course of action, we should always ask ourselves, “Does this reflect Christ’s concern for others,or am I only concerned for myself? “Such sensitivity demonstrates the love of Christ that seeks to heal the broken and help those in need…So here’s the SLM:-
*****
Caring for the burdens of others helps us to forget about our own.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

Shedding Light Moment 11th November 2020

*************
Read Psalm 146 and reflect on this SLM:-
*******
God’s care for the hungry, the oppressed and of course the liberation of those who are imprisoned are declared in verse 7 of the Psalm. All this is cause for celebration and praise. But the greatest freedom of all is freedom from our guilt and shame. No wonder Jesus said “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”(John 8:36).
Through Christ’s sacrifice, we are set free from the very prison of sin to know His joy and love and the freedom that only forgiveness can bring…So here’s the SLM.
*****
The prison of sin cannot withstand the power of Christ’s forgiveness.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

Shedding Light Moment 4th November 2020

***************
Reflect on verse 13 in the reading for today which is Colossians 3:12-17, and in your reflection embrace the truth in this SLM….
**Hate hurts the hater more than the hated,no matter how justified it may seem. We can all choose to love our enemy and forgive. It’s true that forgiveness doesn’t excuse the offense, but when we forgive we show Christ to the world. (See Eph 4:32 also).
God will help you let go of every angry grudge as you watch the Spirit build into you a place where others see the Saviour. So here’s the SLM to consider.
******
When we forgive someone, we look more like Jesus than at any other moment in our life.
….Blessings Pastor Ross.

Shedding Light Moment 6th November 2020

*************
Consider this SLM in today’s reading…Luke 17:11-19.
********
If the King of Kings can get only a one in ten response of thanks, how can we expect more from others? Better to do our deeds to honour God and serve others than to do them to collect gratitude… May the grace of God be seen in us even when our kind acts go unappreciated.
So here’s a SLM to end the week.
*******
Let your light shine before men, that they may…glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16).
….Blessings Pastor Ross.
